let's talk about FAT

It is in the news every other day.
It is at the back of the mind of thousands of scientists.
For all of us who work in jobs related to Nutrition and fat (i.e. lipids, fat content, full fat or reduced fat foods), it is rather obvious now.
We have been making the same mistake for a considerable length of time.
We were believing that fat is not good, we were designing low fat foods and drinks.
Foods and drinks that had worse sensory properties (since fat=lipids are tasty!) and lower (actually!) nutritional value against a number of chronic diseases.

Few months ago, we decided to put all these ideas and so we wrote there two papers:

1. Dairy Fats and Cardiovascular Disease: Do We Really Need to Be Concerned?

2. Inflammation, not Cholesterol, Is a Cause of Chronic Disease

the message we advocate is simple, very simple:
forget the low fat dairy (milk, butter analogues, yoghurt, drinks like kefir),

FAT IS GOOD! it tastes good but also it has positive nutritional value against cardiovascular diseases.

If you think the same, pass the word around :)

Thanks and say yes to full fat food! It tastes better and it protects your heart better!

we made our lipid research to a cover story

Foods, Volume 7, Issue 3 (March 2018)

Cover Story (view full-size image) Dairy fats have been associated with saturated fatty acids (SFA) and increased cholesterol levels upon consumption. With cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) being today the number one cause of death and morbidity globally, a question of topical importance is: “Dairy Fats and Cardiovascular Disease: Do We Really Need to Be Concerned?” We discuss the relationship between dairy consumption, cardiometabolic risk factors and the incidence of CVDs. Evidence suggests that milk has a neutral effect on cardiovascular outcomes, but fermented dairy products—such as yoghurt, kefir and cheese—may have a positive or neutral effect. on inflammation and ...fat tummies

Inflammation is the problem...not the fat tummy...

the following text is a comment that I just posted at this story

"Is it possible to reverse Type 2 diabetes?"

= = =
It is rather simplistic the view of Prof Lean who says "the easiest indicator of someone at risk of type 2 diabetes is a fat tummy". What about all the thin people with DT2 ? ? The driving force of DT2 is inflammation. Medical doctors need to have a more holistic view on tackling inflammation since inflammation is the trigger to a plethora of diseases like DT2, cancer, CVDs, high blood pressure and obesity. Chronic diseases need holistic approaches...not just looking at a "fat tummy".

is fat good for us, or what?

The National Obesity Forum says official guidelines to avoid fat are ‘the biggest mistake in modern medical history’ – but Public Health England are sticking to their advice.

So, the answer to the question is... here.

P.S. there are magic secrets..
Just eat a balanced diet, stay a healthy weight and do regular exercise! That's all folks!
